A lazy summer Sunday

Listening to the constant throbbing beat
of world music
Sipping Greek mountain tea
In Turkey

Çay
A nation’s identity
In a small glass
perched on a glass saucer

A black and white kedi slinks past
Curious
Waiting
Sitting
Wanting

Adored by tourists
By parents
By children
Kedi is in his element
Loved and stroked
In the summer

Back on the lonely empty streets
In the winter
Hungry unless saved and protected
By people
Who care and donate

Kediler are orphans
Like refugees
Searching for a home
Any home
With love warmth and protection
